Sunstone and Kauai Sunrise Shell necklace

Sunstone and Kauai Sunrise Shell necklace

I created this handmade piece of jewelry by beading gold coated Japanese glass beads around a Kauai sunrise shell. Sunrise shells are indigenous to Hawaii and are a type of scallop called Langford’s Pectin, which are a delicacy to local octopus. They are loved for their colors and rarity, are considered a gemstone of Hawaii, and were worn by royalty in the original Hawaiian Kingdom.

I added faceted sun stones from Oregon on the bottom of the shell and hung it from a 24 karat gold filled chain. The chain is 17 inches and adjustable with a faceted Prehnite stone on the end of the chain.
